Named in commemoration of the successful crossing of the Suez canal by the Egyptian military in 1973, 6th of October City was formed under the instruction of former president Anwar Sadat in 1979

The central road to 6th of October is the Mehwar, which starts from the 26th July Corridor near Zamalek and Mohandiseen. The highway has an exit to the Cairo/Alexandria road and leads to Midan Juhayna, where from a road connects to the second most important street of this area; Wahat Road.
